Web Design Brief
Platypus Instruments is an applied research/engineering company - we turn a desired product/capability into something tangible through the application of mathematics, physics, electronics and software engineering. We have a few products of our own, but we also offer contract design services. As a designer, you'd be familiar with our problem - how do you convey what you do when you can do anything a client asks?
Updates
Good evening,
Thankyou to all of the designers who have messaged me asking if they can only do the design work (and have someone else perform the site coding) but I don't know how to partition the job into two - i.e. 1. design, 2. coding.
The designcrowd site only gave me the options of:
1. web design, or
2. web design + coding (+$150).
I chose option #2, because this is what I ultimately need - a functional website. I'll escalate it to the designcrowd helpdesk and ask, but I suspect their answer will be "No. The designer must do both."
I sympathise, because there are some things I do well, and some things I don't do at all (like websites).
I'll let you know what I learn.
Cheers,
J

Target Market(s)
Our audience is predominantly technical, so we'd like to have a site which is easy to navigate and find relevant information without too many visually distracting 'popups'/sliding panes etc.
We've provided a series of photos of past projects/examples, all of which:
a. we own,
b. can be cropped/edited/artistically hacked at will etc
to watermark/pepper the pages with to convey a sense of realism/credibility. They're they're as representative images only and not mandatory. Feel free to use them or ignore them as you wish.

Must have
- Editable text. (i.e. nothing permanently embedded in the graphics as the page(s) are likely to evolve fairly rapidly)
Nice to have
- We're pretty open to ideas. Your artistic eye(s) will far exceed anything us (stereotypically) nerdy folk could suggest!
