Icon Design Brief

We need two icons for a new publishing website to represent the activities of READING and EDITING. The READING icon could reflect a traditional book or an ebook reader like a kindle. The EDITING icon could reflect the traditional red pen, or... something more modern?

The icons will each occupy a space slightly larger than a postage stamp, so they want to be fairly simple and crisp - engaging at small scale. Black and white would be fine, or a single colour design. No text.
