Logo Design Brief

This is a start up "online counseling" business which will provide informational products and services to a predominantly adult Christian audience, i.e. (individual counseling, group counseling, life coaching, workshops/retreats).

Products will eventually address the topics of:
(meditation/stress management, living the abundant life, spiritual renewal,
self help books...).

Relaxation, beautiful nature imagery, and Christian themes will run throughout the forthcoming website. I would like for the logo to blend in with this website.

We do not plan to sell coffee! The idea behind the name of the company, Coffee Break Counseling does not connote a quick coffee break in a work place setting. Instead, it implies stress reduction, relaxed communication, within a beautiful, peaceful setting with a focus on building or rebuilding one's life around the Christian message. On the hit television shows of "Frazier" and "Friends," the central characters were always seen meeting together over a cup of coffee to unwind and discuss their problems with each other. This type of coffee break is more akin to a "Victorian Coffee Break" than a typical workplace coffee break.

MY IDEAS:
The image that I have in my mind's eye of what the logo should look like is that of a historical New England Church, i.e. (mostly white building, steeple atop, red trim arched windows visible along one side with a light source emanating from within. A visible arched door with red trim is open in the front entrance way with a light source behind it softly beckoning one to enter in. With the sun close to setting and a few patches of early snow around, the invitation seems all the more inviting to come into the warmth and fellowship out of the cold and soon to be darkness. Fall colors of red, orange, yellow, brown, and green can be seen on nearby trees. A small cross sits atop the churches steeple. A flagpole to the side with an american flag is partially displayed with little wind blowing. There are some distant lite purple mountain peaks in back and above the building and trees with a small hint of the ocean nearby the church, i.e. blue water & sea gulls). The church and trees sit on top of brown earth mixed with patches of early snow.

Immediately below the church image is the name of the company: Coffee Break Counseling with a caption underneath stating, "Simply Learning Better Ways to Live."

A little below the image & text would be a cup of coffee that is proportionately correct to the other images, with steam/aroma coming off and moving upward from the lite brown coffee in the cup. The cup is stone white with a cobalt blue band running around it. The cup is centered below the image of the church and logo text but with a gap in between for the vapors to rise.

There is an outline silhouette of a man's face on one side of the cup and an outline silhouette of a woman's face on the other side of the cup that are elevated above the cup near the rising aroma off of the cup. They are facing each other over the cup. With the church structure above and in between them. One assumes that this is the subject of their conversation as they relax.

The elements of contrasting warm and cool colors with seasonal changes around beautiful nature imagery is intentional to help connect with a prospective client. Think about it! Most of us enjoy relaxing and unwinding over a good cup of coffee. Other things that help us to mentally unwind are to view beautiful nature images of seasonal fall color, i.e. (New England Fall Foliage), and trips that we have had to the mountains or to the beach. Even recalling childhood, we all looked forward to the first snow. These images are both familiar and comfortable to us. They take us mentally to a place of rest. Historically, the church has always been a place to go for help, guidance, comfort, and reassurance in times of trouble when we lose our way in life. It too is a place of rest, but it is a place of rest for our soul. The lights are on, (indicating both presence & warmth) and the door is open, inviting all who will enter to come in. Hope, healing, peace, and inspiration lie within. "Come thou with us and we will do thee good." The american flag hanging on the nearby flagpole partially extended represents patriotism. Its proximity to the New England Church reminds us as Americans of our early roots as a nation. Without saying a word, its close proximity to the church recommends a course of action for our country to follow in these disturbing times in which we live.

I am certainly open to considering other artistic interpretations of my needs for this company logo, but I thought that I would share the detailed image that I have had in my head for awhile now. Who knows, you may have a better idea than mine. We shall see:) Thanks for your efforts and help on this project.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: I am looking forward to high quality workmanship on my company logo design. I know that you are talented. I want to extend the time frame some to provide you with an opportunity to give my project your undivided attention. I look forward to seeing your best design work. After all, it is how prospective clients will come to see the business that I do. Hopefully, the design work on the logo will be enticing and inviting to those on the outside who may metaphorically speaking, want or need to come in to participate in the services and products that we have to offer. I anticipate that your diesign work will help to brand my company for a long time to come in the area of Christian online counseling services/products at coffeebreakcounseling.com. Thanks;)

An update has been made to the project brief for Online Christian Counseling/Coffe Break Counseling. Please take a moment to re-read this information. Upon reviewing the project brief earlier today after it was submitted a day ago, I noted that some information was moved around that may have made it difficult to understand. This has now been corrected. The information is pieced back together as it was originally written by myself. It is much easier to read and understand regarding the vision that I have for my companies logo. Again, I hope that you will take the time to look at it so that it will be helpful to you in your work. I look forward to viewing some great designs soon. Keep up the good work;) Sincerely, Mark Green

Thank you for the feedback on my logo project brief description at DesignCrowd. For the purpose of a logo design, simplicity is best, but I am still looking for some of those same elements in the simplicity, i.e. (attractive, relaxing, and Christian). The Christian faith is central to the services and products that I will be offering. So, one obvious element in the logo design should be something that communicates that identity, i.e. (New England Church, Cross, Bible, maranatha fish symbol...). For my design, I am okay with either the New England Church or a cross. I am not big on the fish or Bible symbol in the logo. I love the New England Fall Folage, (changing leaf color). Most people who have ever seen pictures of it agree that it is both eye catching and beautiful to look at. Having three trees in the background of the central image(s) with orange, red, and yellow colors might be another element to include to represent beauty. The final element to represent relaxation might include a traditional stone white coffee cup in the foreground with a blue band around it and a little steam coming off of the top to indicate that there is something in it. Putting it all together then, here is a simplified logo design composition that could work for me. One scenario would be to have a coffee cup as described above in the foreground with a brown verticle cross off to the left side and the fall colored trees as mentioned above sitting in the background. The logo text and caption would fall directly beneath the images. Scenario two could be to include a simplified/modified version of the New England Church in the foreground with the fall colored trees in the background. The logo text and caption would be placed directly below the images. Scenario Number three might be to exclude the trees and in its place put mountain peaks in the background with a vertical wooden brown cross on the left of the central image in the foreground with our coffee cup placed back in as the cnetral image. The logo text and caption would directly follow below the images.

Dear designers who have committed to working on this project, please read or reread all of the information for the Online Christian Counseling/Coffee Break Counseling Logo Design Project before submitting a design, i.e. the project brief and the "updates." In my last update, I shared some valuable information that should be helpful to those who are working on this project. The logo design should include the following elements: (relaxation, beauty, and the Christian faith). It needs to stand out and make a bold statement. In my last update I suggested three scenario compositions which would include both symbols and color schemes that would work for me. This is a simplified/modified version of the original posted brief to help guide designers. I hope that this information is helpful to those who are and will be working for me on this project. Those who address my needs in their designs will be way ahead of the pack in the dash for the cash competetion. As of this writing, two designs are currently under consideration and three designs have been eliminated. I would really like to see some more high quality designs submitted. I know that you are talented, and I look forward to viewing your work:) Mark Green (Client)

I am a client for the Online Christian Counseling/Coffee Break Counseling open project. I would like to make the following announcement. The official close date for my project is 8/6/14. I extended the deadline to initially accommodate designer submissions, but I may not need to wait that long. I am still undecided about a couple of front runner designs that I am currently reviewing. I will consider viewing the works of other designers who have already committed to working on this project, but I think that we are at a point in the process now where I can close off invitations to new designers who may wish to participate. For those designers who have committed to the project already and have design work in progress for this project, I would like to see your best design(s) by or before the end of this week. I anticipate making a decision by the first part of next week. I am close to making the selection, and I would like to give everyone the opportunity to submit their best work for consideration. I would like to personally thank all of those who are and have participated in this project. I appreciate your time, your talent, and your interest. To those who are not selected, perhaps I will have an opportunity to secure your services for future work on another aspect of my forthcoming business. I have seen some high quality work at Design/Crowd. Thank you for your interest and contribution to this logo design project:) Sincerely, Mark Green (Client)

I would like to thank all of those designers who have contributed to the Online Christian Counseling/Coffee Break Counseling project. I have had some very good designs submitted for my forthcoming company logo. A decision has been made earlier to day to stop the competetion a little short of the extended deadline. I have had a difficult task of deciding between two high quality designs. I would like to personally thank FRESTI and Arham specifically for their entries. A decision has been made to award FRESTI the first place prize and Arham the second place prize. I provided as much guidance as I could to this project, but ultimately, they had the task of interpretation and production for the logo. I look forward to working together with them and perhaps some of the rest of the designers again as new projects come up in the future, i.e. (shirts, cups, letterhead, business cards, etc.). Great job everyone. While the time on this project remaining may still indicate that there is opportunity to submit work, please be advised that no new or other submissions are currently being considered for this it and that the prize money is in the process of or has been awarded. Your time, talent, and interest has been appreciated! Thank you again for your contribution. Sincerely, Mark Green (Client)

Target Market(s)

adult Christian audience, i.e. (individual counseling, group counseling, life coaching, workshops/retreats); I would like for them to be able to de-stress when they come to and spend time on the website or at a workshop/retreat, (which may be presented in a beautiful relaxing setting). I want clients to come to associate me, my services, and my products with bringing peace into their lives on one level or another.

Should not have
  • While I am open to the artistic interpretation of the designer, should he or she wish to depart from the detailed imagry that I have provided from my minds eye above, I am hopeful that the designer understands the imagry and the message behind it that I am attempting to convey to prospective clients. It is a clear idea and direction for the project to go for the designer who wishes to take it on. If the designer can encapsulate the look, feel, and message in another way than has been described previously, then I am open to considering it. The designer who drops the ball will be the designer who is not really interested in what I have to say and how I would like for it to be expressed. I am intentionally speaking a message to prospective clients through the imagry that I provide in my company logo and forthcoming website. On the otherhand, the designer who wins the prize will be one who best captures what I am trying to say and how I am trying to say it.
