What size should be the pattern?

by Bang The Drum Designs Ltd on Friday, November 12, 2010

Hello Bubba Gumboots!
Would you be able to post a picture or an example of the boots to get a feel for size, style etc?
I'm really interested in working on these designs, and it would help to have a clearer idea the type of boots I'm working towards.
Thanks,
Lucy

Hi Lucy,
Sure thing, I will post a picture of a plain coloured gumboot to show you the basic template of what we are working with. Also we will post a picture of a boot with a pattern on it already so you get a feel for the types of patterns we are interested in.
Thanks,
Emma

Hi Emma,

I'd be interested in doing something along the lines of what you want, so just to get it clear:

- When you say you want the illustrations 'side by side', could you elaborate on that?

- I'm looking to do all illustrations with the same style, so just to confirm on the 'sickly cute', would illustrations such as the fruit and vegetables with facial expressions be considered 'sickly cute'?

That's the questions I have for now.

Cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon, we would prefer just plain vegetables and fruit, but cartoonised and colourful. When I say side by side, what I mean is - imagine we have a 10cm by 10cm image which displays all our fruit and veg, then we would repeat this one image all over the gumboot however best it would fit.
Hope that clears up some of your questions

Thanks for the reply,

I understand now.

So that goes for all the others such as the jungle animals, and ducks/bubbles etc. As long as you're able to tile them...

Cheers,

Simon

Just a couple more things...

We would prefer to avoid white backdrops if possible. From a practical point of view, a lot of white on gumboots is not great as it is expected that white will stain quickly and spoil the boots.

Faces on animals are fine..just not on things that don''t naturally have a face, e.g. fruit, vegetables, bubbles, leaves etc. If faces are involved, not too much detailing, just the important bits (e.g. eyes, mouth, nose)

With the fruit & veg/jungle animals, try to avoid repeating the same colours, e.g. for fruit and vegies, if you want to include both strawberries and apples, maybe make the apple green instead to make them distinct and easily identifiable.

Lastly, we would like to see designs without black outlines on the images please!

Thanks all, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
