basically it is just for smartphone apps on iOS and Android phones (like iPhone and Samsung etc)

I hope that explains it; i''m guessing if its vector graphics and appears ok at the smallest size - then should be ok for all other sizes?

Do you have an icon in mind that represents your app, also can you upload screenshots of your app so I can get a feeling of what it looked like if you have not done so already.
