Logo Design Brief

We require a new logo for our tourism company which offers guided day tours to New Zealand's only active marine volcano, White Island.

Our company name is “White Island Tours” but we would like to incorporate our other brand element which is the word “PeeJay”. Attached is a copy of our existing logo so that you may see how this is done at present. We would like the new logo to use the text “White Island Tours with PeeJay” but would also consider variations such as “PeeJay White Island Tours”. Possibly the words "with PeeJay" could be differentiated from the words "White Island Tours" using colour, font or size.

The logo needs to be contemporary and clean and convey that White Island is an active volcano.

White Island has a distinctive shape when viewed from the east that could perhaps be incorporated into the design. Attached is the main image we use in advertising which demonstrates this shape and how the crater opens to the sea. Another feature of White Island is that is has a constant steam plume coming out of the crater. White Island is not the sort of volcano that has lava (magma) coming out of it so please avoid this imagery in your design. We would recommend doing a Google Image search using the search term “White Island” so that you can familiarise yourself with White Island’s appearance and get a sense of the place.

We are the only company that takes tourists to White Island by boat (our two boats are called PeeJay IV and PeeJay V) and the marine theme features widely in our business. Attached is an image of our uniform shirt based on the blue and white naval theme. We plan to keep the blue and white striped shirts so the new logo needs to be able to be incorporated into these.

Our current logo is a navy blue (C: 100, M: 100, Y: 30, K:23). The new logo can either use this colour or be a combination of new colours. The new logo needs to translate to single colour (reverse out) well, as it will be embroidered on elements of our uniform (image of cap attached)

The logo will also be used in all types of marketing collateral – from brochures and print advertising through to vehicles and billboards.

• - While being an active volcano, White Island is not the sort of volcano that has lava (magma) coming out of it so please avoid incorporating anything which implies a volcano spewing red lava.
