Logo Design Brief

We request you to kindly design a logo which helps to support the mission and pursue the following concept as an imprint in the viewers heart and minds. The concept, even as simple as it feels is actually with quite a tilt…….with following USPs.

1) Healthy Fine Indian Street & Fast food.
2. Unique, new (to British Palate) and delicious, Indian Regional Street/Fast Food cuisine.
3. Vegetarian focused (but not fully vegetarian) so if possible, kindly avoid using leaves/branches/trees. Its about animal rights but to avoid being stereotyped do not wish any animal in the sign.
4. Eco friendliness cum awareness owing to promoting Vegetarian cuisine while trying to introduce to and mould people towards vegetarianism (There are very logical links between sustainability and Vegetarianism……..or say between adverse affects on environment and producing meat). But this should not again lead to green/earth kind of effects giving a feel of it being an environment campaign.
5. Indian heritage, hospitality and flavours backed with modern Indian and Contemporary but convenient and user-friendly way of serving food from Live Cooking Stations.
8. Nearly spiritual and philosophically enlightening interiors……KARMA (:-
9. Indian splendours and incredible India’s secrets like landscapes, monuments being digitally projected in the outlets.
10. Ayurvedic and Herbal Benefits of Herbs and spices.

Basically as the tagline goes, the attempt is to portray Indian splendours and glorious past and present in very contemporary way.

As trendy city centre locations, the majority of our business will be from office workers for lunch and evening chill outs and those out socially. Ideally, while being very modern and contemporary, the outlet should be a very inviting and intriguing, nearly philosophical and mystical.......very relaxing, ideally with effects from Indian spirituality (Karma ??? saffron, green, blue & whites).

We also intend, if possible, to give the interiors as theatrical looks as possible (may be with digital projections) with images from (Incredible) India’s wonders and landscapes. Basically, we are trying to break through the preconceived mindset of west of old and developing India……..towards the modern and emerging India but still with strong spiritual and philosophical foundations.

We’re for sure offering very simple, healthy, tasty and unique food with real value for money, but still the presentation (including logo/website/interiors) should impart a feeling of the whole experience being premium and something to crave for.

The logo should project the modernism and corporate presence while retaining powerful spiritual mystique of incredible India (and/or Karma ?) and should be nearly mesmerising with a very balanced mix of trendy with a hint of traditional (Karma/Spirituality).

Shouldn't have any flower/leaves/old indian art patterns............except something linked with Karma.

Please find below few sites/business having few overlapping ideas while we still anticipate quite unique presentation/design in ours. No logo out of these may be copied or taken as design basis. These are only to give you a feel of target market and brand perception we’re trying to achieve/surpass.
http://www.leonrestaurants.co.uk/ (Healthy Fast Food 12 London-outlets)
http://www.hiltl.ch/en/ (Quite contemporary Vegetarian branding)
http://www.tibits.co.uk/e/ (based on Hiltl - Veg Food+weight based price)
http://www.otarian.com/ (Eco USP used, actually more than, excessively)
http://www.tamatanga.com/ (Good style of connecting Indian Fast Food with contemporary…..nearly break-through seating style and website)
http://www.chowki.com/ http://www.melarestaurant.co.uk/ http://www.zoukteabar.co.uk/ http://www.redhot-worldbuffet.com/ (Few contemporary Indian outlets in UK)
http://www.masalazone.com/ (“India” brand well used – 7 outlets in London)
http://www.thethalicafe.co.uk/ (Quite nicely used the Thali branding and contemporary website)
http://www.rasikarestaurant.com/ (Just for unique design/use of spices)
http://shop.nirulas.com/index.php?cPath=195 (Quite good website at least in Delhi terms)
http://www.creamcentre.com/ (Good use/launch of Veg branding)

IT NEEDS TO APPEAL ACROSS RACE, RELIGION, GENDER, POLITICAL AND SHOULD HAVE NO BOUNDS.

The positioning of the brand is a phenomenon, boutique, gourmet, premium, speciality and Spiritual (Karma)Destination.

The values of the brand are modern feel for authentic values of health and taste, purity of thoughts and doings, respect and love everybody including animals, sustainability and eco-friendliness.

The first glimpse should impart a feel of youthfulness from modernity and energy which may be from the full logo or signature symbol (which may be sub-logo within logo). This powerful symbol may be something to do with Q and K and/or some kind of representation of Karma (Unending/Interlinked Cycle of Life). Logo should embody this spirit and needs to feel real/human yet be bold with and urban contemporary flair. The logo and/or signature symbol should be visually stimulating and should make us feel proud to show it off on not only our business cards but anywhere......packaging, Paper carrier bags etc.

Supporting files for Karma are only attached to share our searches on Karma, but nor should be taken as only or conclusive depiction neither there is any obligation to have or not to have this in the design.

As with all great logos we need a full logo that can be used in full color and B&W (both on White background and Black). The signature symbol within the logo may be used to quickly brand the company (say on small stickers on take away boxes or any wrappings/gifts.

Wish you all the best in your creative endeavour. Hope you could create a masterpiece, which would retain one of the top positions in graphic design history.

Update 5th Sep' 2010:
Dear Friends,

First of all, please accept our sincere thanks to all incredible designers who have taken time out to come up with logo designs. Honestly we are overwhelmed by the suggestions. Thanks a lot for your efforts.

While most of the designs are created around the brief, just to save future time and efforts of many, we’d like to highlight: We are looking towards a very contemporary design which would stand out boldly in clutter of Fast Casual Food brands like Wagamama, Nando's, Chiquitos, Chipotle, Panera, Carluccios etc) while still retaining our roots of spiritual India (or if possible Karma).

In addition to websites with overlapping concepts mentioned in the brief, just came across a link http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/09/02/showcase-of-appetizing-restaurant-websites/ which would depict the contemporary angle we are heading towards. Not to mention but we consider it worth extending the thought process of the top few designers towards web-design as well.

Hope it helps and thanks a lot for your further creative thoughts.

Thanks and warm regards,
QuicKarma Team

Updates

Dear Friends,

Just posted an update to the Brief...........at the bottom of the Task Description.

Thanks and warm regards,
QuicKarma Team

Dear All Great Designers,

First of all accept my congratulations for being such blessed creative minds.

We have been very kindly showered by innumerable design ideas. As you’d agree, with our unique brief and expectations, quite many were unfortunately not able to make up to the shortlist…………but then 2-4 have something or other of significant interest.

We regret that it is quite impossible at this stage to agree on any one design submitted. On the other hand we do not wish the wonderful and creative efforts to  go in vain.

We’ve asked Design Crowd if we could split the prize money in more than 1 designers…..say 2-3……..but at the same time we wanted to keep you aware and hopefully agree on such proposal if confirmed by design crowd.

Basically if that is mutually agreed, we’d request to have those 2-3 designers to send us the files so that we can use them as starting point to come up with a final design locally. We for sure confirm and commit that we would not be using any of the designs as it is…………but of course something of one and something of other(s). This is just to keep you aware and thank you in anticipation for your kind acceptance and of course for your creations and support till now.

nb. One thing………we would not be able to give participation payments to all but please ensure that anytime in life you get a chance to visit Manchester, UK, ask for my name at QuicKarma Fast Casual Indian Street Food Outlet(s) for complimentary meal and drinks.

Thanks and warm regards,
Anshuman Verma
