The Media Burn Independent Video Archive collects over 6,000 documentary videotapes produced by independent videographers outside of corporate contexts. Media Burn recognizes the power of documentary to change the way we understand the world around us. That's why it is our mission to preserve our shared cultural history on analog videotape and make it available for generations to come. More than 2000 hours of innovative, exciting, and illuminating video are already streaming at mediaburn.org.
We started as a very grassroots nonprofit organization in 2004, and in the last ten years have grown and expanded to become a nationally recognized leader in videotape preservation, receiving grants from the National Archives and the federal Save America's Treasures program.
We feel it's time to re-vamp our image, starting with our logo. Our current logo was meant to evoke screens, but it's overly complicated. We'd like a streamlined, sleek, and sophisticated logo that conveys who we are. First and foremost, it needs to convey "video," but we'd also like it if it could express the idea of connecting past to present, the way we do by restoring historical documentaries and making them available online. It's very hard for us to succinctly convey who we are and what we do, and the new logo will be a first step.
We would like to move away from the current color scheme and fonts, and simplify to possibly just red or just blue.
