THere is no reference yet .. , it is a new type of communication platform that was developed because the current concept of forums is really outdated.. (becomes clear if you just search for ''forums'' on google) So it is our intention that our communication platform becomes the new standard of forums. 

Although in this example it is a ''new-forum'' for stock investors, the style and design should be applicable for different topics/communities. We are really super interested to find out how designers come up with different idea''s on how these ''new-forums'' should look like.

For clarification:

Our platform is designed to follow up and discuss TOPICS (here mainly companies listed on stock exchange), (either with friends or others). All threads are thus organized by using TAGS that clarify the Topic(s) that are discussed in the thread. If a user then filters on tag(s), all threads containing that tag will be filtered.

For user''s it thus has to be very clear which Topic(s) (tagfilter) is selected and being discussed. But also in the threads the different topics (tags) of the thread should be visible and users can click on these to ''go'' to (filter) discussions on the newly selected topic (tag).

Dear Designers, 


We are still trying to find the design that shows users from the first visit that we are different than current communication platforms. We have few suggestions that might lead to the design we are looking for:

To summarize: we provide public and private "forum" pages to discuss certain TOPICS (tags) (mostly companies in this case) with other investors or with personal contacts. 

-          THE TITLE: more prominent: if a user filters (tagfilter on top) all conversations on MICROSOFT , the navigation titel (breadcrumb) should give the feeling that the user is on a ‘separate’ page/forum where only Microsofit is discussed.

 

-          PUBLIC / FOLLOWING / CONTACTS

 

Could you  try to let the user feel that these are ‘separate’ pages as well ?

 

Public = should feel as public forum , where everyone can send posts and everyone can read & find each other’s public posts

Contacts = should be perceived as private forum, users should get the feeling that they are on a page/forum that they share only with their (personal) contacts. Only posts from personal contacts will appear here And also if the user sends a thread when he is on this ‘private forum’ that only his private contacts will read his posts.

Following = more a “feed” that shows all threads from people you follow.

 

-          CREATE THREAD: if the user is on ‘public’ section then it must be clear that if the user creates a thread that this is a public thread. If user is on ‘contacts’ section, then it must be clear that the thread will be a private one.

 

-          THREADS: this should list the tags (topics) that the user added to his thread. The tags in a thread are also clickable.: If a user creates a thread about Microsoft and comments on the CEO of Microsoft then he adds the tags #Microsoft #CEO to his thread. Users that click on the tag #Microsoft inside the thread will filter all threads that contain the tag #Microsoft (effect: the title shows #Microsoft, all threads that contain the tag #microsoft will be shown)

 

-          LEFT/RIGHT MENU: only User search & saved searches should be sticky. Could you try to replace ‘POPULAR TAGS’ & ‘POPULAR CONTRIBUTORS’ by a section in which the activities from the user network will be shown and maybe some promoted messages?

 

o   Ex: User X started following User Y

o   Ex: User X contributed in discussion ‘Subject of thread’.  

o   Ex: User X added User Z as a contact

o   PROMOTED MESSAGE: Follow us to receive updates and analyses about companies

o   PROMOTED MESSAGE: Use these tags to discuss Topic X

o   PROMOTED MESSAGE: Filter on this tag to find all our analyses

Hello Momentous ,

Currently it is only a design contest only. We are looking for designers that provide interesting / creative combinations or other options for the mockup in our description. 

In all attempts, please go out from the idea that our platform is a new type of forum. It should not appear as another social media platform, but really a place where people go to to discuss topics. Either on a public forum or on a private forum.
