Logo Design Brief

The mission of Strong Families Schenectady and its partners is to strengthen families by promoting a multisystems view (defined below) of working with children and their families. Under the auspices of the Strengthening Families Initiative of The Schenectady Foundation, Strong Families Schenectady is committed to increasing overall family functioning through the use of professional development, community collaboration and family empowerment. Our goal is to establish partnering among providers and parents working toward a model family health.

“Multisystemic Perspective” is defined as:
Observing individual family members within the context of the systems they are a part of rather than viewing the isolated behavior and/or individual as problematic. The systemic context of an individual’s experience is seen as rooted in multiple layers of organization that primarily include the circular interaction of problems and their attempted solutions. The multisystemic view emphasizes the interactional view of a client with respect to the groups, organizations, agencies, settings and communities they are a part of.
Primary Multisystemic Principles Include:
-Use of strengths-based language
-A commitment to problem solving
-The use of solution focused interventions
- A view of the family as having a structure and interactional pattern that requires
intervention
- A shift from focusing on “the symptom-presenting problem” to defining the underlying problem (i.e. lack of family structure, negative interactional patterns) that fuels the symptom
