Logo Design Brief

Ditch Lily Gravel
Minnesota’s Twin Cities west metro · 100 / 60 / 36 miles gravel bike race

Ditch Lily Gravel is a Minnesota gravel bike race based in the Twin Cities’ west metro, where the suburbs give way to country gravel roads. The 100-, 60-, and 36-mile options are for riders chasing a result or spending a day on gravel with friends. The name evokes the daylilies that pop up along country roads, a flash of color at the edge of the gravel.

Short description
Race for a result or ride with friends on 100-, 60-, and 36-mile gravel routes through the open fields and backroads west of Minnesota’s Twin Cities.

Give the race a visual identity that feels like it belongs on a vintage cycling poster. The design should have the energy of a real bike race and feel welcoming to someone signing up for their first gravel event. Think warm paper, bold lettering. The landscape can come through in fence lines, open fields, gravel shoulders, and riders spread out down a county road.

The roadside lily and the Ditch Lily Gravel name anchor the identity across editions.

Primary wordmark. Make DITCH LILY the dominant line and GRAVEL immediately readable underneath.

- Standalone mark. Draw a daylily in a few bold shapes. Explore using the negative space around the stem or leaves to suggest a bend in a gravel road. Make sure the flower still reads at small sizes. Build the silhouette in one ink first, then add color.
