Book Cover Design Brief
Designers! 28 October 2025 was a day I will never forget. I am writing a book about my experience.
Surviving Melissa is a gripping, first-person account of surviving the first-ever Category 5 hurricane to directly strike Jamaica. The narrative follows a father, his girlfriend, and their 20-month-old son as they endure three weeks of total infrastructure collapse—no water, power, or cellular service.
Unlike a typical disaster memoir, this book focuses on modern preparedness and self-reliance. It details the strategic use of solar power (Jackery units), satellite technology (Starlink), and the psychological resilience required to protect a family while the island’s landscape is literally rewritten by 160mph winds. It is a story of survival, the "inconvenience of convenience" regarding elderly parents, and the hard lessons learned about government and infrastructure fragility.

I want to see a juxtaposition between the chaos of nature (darkness, storm, destroyed palms) and the glow of human resilience (light from a solar generator, a safe room, or a glowing window). Color Palette: Deep storm grays, teals, and blacks, contrasted with "survival orange" (evoking Jackery/preparedness gear) or a warm, safe yellow light.
