Logo Design Brief
Ginger Ink is an established film and television production company based in Kenya, with over three decades of international work across Africa.
We are commissioning a logo redesign only, to support an updated website and a broader brand refresh, which will be commissioned shortly.
Naming & hierarchy
The primary wordmark is Ginger Ink.
Designers are also invited to explore how Ginger Ink Films Africa may function as a secondary or sub-wordmark (e.g. descriptor or alternate lock-up used selectively). Visualising this hierarchy will help inform our final decision.
Creative direction
We are intentionally inviting two parallel approaches:
Route 1 — Evolution
• Builds on the existing identity
• Retains recognisability and brand continuity
• May reinterpret or abstract elements of the current TV-inspired icon
Route 2 — Reimagined
• A clean-sheet rethink of the Ginger Ink identity
• No obligation to reference existing iconography
Both routes are equally valid.
Look & tone
• Confident, imaginative, and distinctive
• Playful in an intelligent, understated way
• Authentic and authored, never corporate
Please avoid film clichés (clapperboards, cameras, reels, maps of Africa), childish or novelty styles, and logos that feel generic, app-led, or interchangeable with software or tech startups.
Hand-drawn approaches are welcome if they feel intentional, graphic, and confident rather than cute or decorative.
Colour
We like ginger/orange tones and expect these to remain part of the identity. The logo must work on light and dark backgrounds and at small social-media sizes.
Usage & deliverables
The logo will be used across website, Instagram, LinkedIn, business cards, and light corporate use (letterhead-compatible version required).
Deliverables to include: primary logo, secondary lock-up/sub-mark, social-media icon version, and final files (AI/EPS/SVG plus PNG/JPG).
Reference materials are attached for context only and are not constraints. (NB The business card had a physical square hole cut in it... hard to read on the scan)
Website: www.gingerink.tv (for context only - to be refreshed)
