T-shirt Design Brief

1. Front: Do Good ; size: we're open to ideas, but in the past we've liked using design that is about 5"wide and 1" tall
modern, clean font that ties in with the back shirt design.

2. Back of shirt: approx 9" x 9" (doesn't have to be square)
We need a bold, culturally respectful, modern T-shirt design that will appear on the back of a black shirt for our church’s 2025 theme: “Digging Ditches.” The design should integrate Hawaiian kapa-style geometric patterns, a shovel icon, Hawaiian text, based on a biblical text in 2 Kings 3:16-20 NKJV.

Examples of styles we like:
Badge / block layout
Strong horizontal kapa bands
Symmetrical, balanced composition

Design concept
A shovel icon (simple, modern)
Hawaiian kapa geometric patterns integrated around or behind the shovel.
Preferred motifs: Niho (triangles), zigzags, wave patterns, piko, etc.
Patterns should feel authentic-inspired (not clipart), clean, and modern
You may integrate kapa patterns in ways that visually suggest water, land, or layers of soil. Keep it balanced and subtle.
If it doesn't clutter the design too much, we want to include the words, 1. E Pule Kakou and 2. This portion of the scripture: ...and the land was filled with water. 2 Kings 3:20

Must have

• The overall feel should be clean, strong, meaningful, and wearable — not overly busy or cartoonish. A shovel/pickaxe/trowel icon (simple, modern) Hawaiian kapa geometric patterns integrated around or behind the shovel.

Nice to have

• Bold and modern, Culturally respectful, Minimal, not cluttered. High contrast (tan/beige ink on black shirt preferred) Should feel like something people would wear casually

Should not have

• 1. No clipart-looking kapa patterns, 2. No cartoonish or playful shovel or water splashes, puddles, or literal rain graphics, 3. No bright colors or multicolor printing – Keep to a single ink color (tan, sand, beige), 4. No distressed/grunge textures unless intentionally subtle, 4. No religious imagery beyond text – No crosses, doves, halos, church silhouettes, etc., 5. No culturally inaccurate elements – No tiki faces, tiki masks, petroglyph stick figures, 6. No designs that resemble political or activist messaging – Make sure the shovel and kapa elements don’t unintentionally resemble union logos, protest imagery, or construction-company branding
