Logo Design Brief

I need a logo for a team sponsor.
My husband passed away recently and I will be sponsoring a local hockey team in his honour.
His initial: Michael Lawrence Gau (MLG)
He was a hockey player in our community from the time he was a little boy to the night that he passed away after an old timers hockey game at age 50yrs.
He loved the game and loved his community.
I will be sponsoring the under 15 rep. hockey team and will have a logo on their jerserys in honour of Mike.
Ideas for logo:
-mountains, YUKON theme, fireweed, hockey stick, puck, #18
-not sure of colours; maybe blue, black, pink/purple
-he was a sophisticated, class, well dressed man with a sense of humour and true love of hockey.
