Project Overview:
Little Beans Play Café is a family-friendly space that blends a relaxed coffee shop atmosphere with engaging play areas for young children. Our brand identity needs to feel calm, sensory-friendly, and approachable for parents while being playful and warm for children. We want a cohesive brand system that can flex seamlessly across signage, website, uniforms, printed materials, and social media.
⸻
Brand Positioning:
• Aesthetic: Calm, neutral interiors with pastel tones to create a relaxed, sensory-friendly environment.
• Tone of voice: Simple, honest, and direct — never loud, gimmicky, or sales-heavy.
• Visuals: Natural, hand-drawn illustrative style with light use of colour and photography that reflects the feel of the space.
• Consistency: Branding must carry across signage, website, staff uniforms, printed materials, and social media presence.
• Typography: Bold yet rounded, striking a balance between approachability and professionalism.
• Iconography: Simple, clean line icons (e.g., coffee bean symbols) to reinforce clarity and consistency.
⸻
Deliverables Required:
1. Logo Variations
• Primary logo (with logotype and icon/character lock-up).
• Secondary logo (simplified version for small-scale applications).
• Standalone logo mark/icon (coffee bean or character).
• Versions: horizontal, vertical, square.
• Colour variations: full-colour, monochrome, black, white, and transparent background.
2. Typography
• Brand fonts (headline + body copy). Must be web-safe.
3. Colour Palette
• Primary brand colours (calm pastels aligned with café aesthetic).
• Neutral base tones to ensure accessibility and legibility.
• Provide colour codes in Pantone, CMYK, RGB, and HEX.
4. Character & Illustration Assets
• Development of the “Little Bean” character (our signature brand mascot), in a hand-drawn style that matches our overall aesthetic.
• Poses: standing, sitting, running, waving, holding coffee, holding toys, seasonal variations (e.g., party hat, scarf).
• Supporting illustrations/icons (coffee cup, bean symbols, toy elements) that complement the character style.
• Simplified line-art versions for use in small-scale or single-colour contexts.
5. File Outputs
• Vector files: .AI, .EPS, .SVG for logos, characters, icons.
• Raster files: .PNG (with transparent background), .JPG for web and social.

Updates
Thanks for all the designs submitted so far, we are grateful for your efforts. The designs submitted to date don’t quite hit the mark for us so we will extend the deadline and ask all designers to carefully consider the brief that was provided when submitting designs.
This is for a children’s play cafe, so the designs submitted need to be soft and fun. A hand drawn style is more preferred.
Some of the designs presented were too cartoonish / Americanised. We don’t want to depict the bean character as a server at the cafe. The character is more akin to the children who would be playing at the cafe.
We also don’t want to have loud colours (reds, oranges, etc.). Softer pastels and tones are the preference.
We will endeavour to provide feedback on all designs submitted but ask that all designers ensure they have fully read and understood the brief before submitting.
