Logo Design Brief

We’re creating a logo for First Virginian, a Virginia-based technology services company.

We’d like a modern wordmark (“First Virginian”) and a symbol inspired by the Virginia state seal, using state symbols in a creative, modern way.

Suggested direction:

Replace Virtus with a cardinal (Virginia's state bird), dressed in simple armor or robe

Replace the spear with a dogwood branch (Virginia's state tree/flower), or a spear made of dogwood

Replace the sheathed sword with a shield shaped like Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, if it fits

Swap the defeated tyrant for a modern threat — like a masked hacker, cartoonish (cyber) burglar, etc

Replace the motto “Sic Semper Tyrannis” with “Defendat Primus Virginianus” — “Let the First Virginian defend”
The seal includes "VIRGINIA" at the top, could be replaced with First Virginian"

The border of the seal traditionally includes tobacco leaves — feel free to swap this for dogwood, oak, circuit patterns, or even cannabis leaves, if done subtly

We’d like the wordmark and symbol to be usable together or separately, so the design should work in a variety of layouts and sizes — from business cards to websites.
