Graphic Design Brief

A friend of ourselves died suddenly a few weeks ago in the run up to a ski trip. I want to create a design to print an embroidered patch for those of us who are going on the trip to commemorate our friend. I don't know how to use illustrator or the equivalent and am having a hard time figuring out how to create a good design for the patch. Specifically, I would like to add the following text around the radius of a circular patch: "W.W.R.D 2025?" on the top half of the circle and "Bormio, Italy" on the bottom half. Once the graphic is completed, I can get the patches embroidered. I am attaching both the original photo as well as a stylized image from the photo.
