Logo Design Brief
** Project setup **
We guarantee a winner will be chosen amongst our submissions. We aim to complete the project by Monday, 22nd of April, narrowing down our selection for refinement in the course of this week.
**The Problem**
More than 20 million children globally still miss important childhood vaccines and this figure is up two million from four years ago. As a result, more than 700,000 children die every year due to vaccine-preventable diseases. The majority of the burden falls on Africa. Multiple barriers prevent parents from seeking out vaccines for their children. These include knowledge about vaccine benefits, vaccine schedules, and the importance of timeliness. Furthermore, upcoming vaccination appointments might not be front of mind in the challenging contexts many parents in low- and middle-income countries live in.
** Our Solution **
Many of these barriers are addressable by simple notifications at the right time, which we aim to provide through our solution. Notify Health is a global health non-profit/charity supporting healthcare systems to implement automated message and voice-based vaccination reminders for parents of newborn children. We send an SMS or a pre-recorded voice call to parents to notify them at the right time when their child’s vaccines are due based on the local routine vaccination schedule. Reminders are low-cost and scalable, have proven effective in practice, and have strong evidence to increase vaccination coverage by several percentage points. The evidence also covers different contexts in several African countries - A geography we aim to specialize in (sub-Saharan Africa).
** Our personality **
We are a simple solution to a difficult problem. We are people-centric and empathetic of the contexts parents in sub-Saharan Africa live in. We are professional, trustworthy, and healthcare-system experienced. And we are bold, modern and technology-enabled.
** Our target audience (In order of priority) **
- Healthcare system stakeholders in sub-Saharan Africa (Health Ministers, Healthcare center leaders)
- Global NGO and aid organization leadership (WHO, UNICEF, UN, etc.)
- Talent that wants to help make our vision a reality (Local and global)
- Funders that donate money for our cause (Foundations, companies incl. Mobile phone companies, high net worth individuals)
Some of our target stakeholders might not be English native speakers.
Our target audience will be reached through our website and on LinkedIn, in fundraising/marketing materials, and in e-mails
** Logo Design **
It is not required that the organisation’s purpose is fully understood from the logo alone, but a graphic that somehow hints at what the charity does is preferred. Some ideas we had so far what this could be are outlined below with lower quality drafts attached as pictures. Please treat these as initial ideas and no fixed preference of ours. We are very open to creative new ideas:
- A “notification bubble” known from using a smartphone with apps
- A sphere that symbols the protection from diseases that vaccines provide
- Signal bars or other symbols of mobile phone signal
We want our logo to contain one “symbolic element” that hints at what we do and that could stand on it’s own if needed, or next to/integrated into the “Notify Health” name either with or without any connecting visual elements (e.g. a box, line between them, etc.). We want the full name “Notify Health” to be included in versions with symbolic element and name.
General logo styles we are interested in are: Abstract, Pictorial/Combination, Symbol, Dynamic, Monogram with letters turned into logo parts
Our logo should feel rather bold than elegant, serious & professional and not too playful, modern and not traditional, Technological over physical/low tech
Our logo should work in our brand color (on white background), as well as in black or white. Our brand color currently is #126B89
** What to avoid **
Our co-founder team is not from sub-Saharan Africa, so we want to avoid coming across as paternalistic or overconfident. Please avoid a clear visual reference to Africa, death, hearts, or syringes. We are skeptical on including references to children, or the medical cross symbol in our logo - But we are open to ideas if you believe a design with these would work well.
** Examples we like and dislike **
LIKE: maternalhealthinitiative.org - a simple design that’s comfortable to look at and describes the organisation’s core mission well.
LIKE: sands.org.uk - Clever combination of baby in-utero and eye+tear, reinforces the org’s purpose.
LIKE: healthyfutures.global - Clever play to what their charity does. Their logo is a reference to a quick test (similar to the ones used to test for COVID)
LIKE: oxfam.org - Clean, modern, play to their name
LIKE: newincentives.org - Clean and simple, but reminds us of a mother with a child, which is whom they try to help
DISLIKE: gosh.org - less keen on the childish drawing style
DISLIKE: nspcc.org.uk - Brand colour and font alone without a graphic is too sparse, missing opportunity to indicate what the charity does.
** Desired Submissions **
Please provide a logo that we can color and scale at will (e.g. a SVG vector graphic). Please provide four versions.
1) One rectangular with our name in brand color on white background
2) the same on dark background
3) One with a standalone “square” version of the logo without the name on white background
4) the same on dark background
