Logo Design Brief

Hi designers! Our company is undergoing a brand refresh, from our old brand TheLateralAgency.com to our new brand LateralLearning. co

At Lateral, we focus on inclusive tech elearning. We offer 1 month Programs and 6 month Specializations in Inclusive Product Management, Inclusive Leadership, Unbiased Data Analytics/ML, Automation, Security Engineering and more. Our typical audience is GenZ/ Young Millenials early in their tech career who want to expand their product management, leadership or engineering skills in a short period and also want to shape cultures of inclusion. We aim to provide an inclusive lense to Product Management &Engineering training, and as a differentiator, we also offer specialized formats for students with ADHD, which is a unique proposition.

Our name "Lateral" derives from lateral thinking, which is common in people with ADHD or in the autism Spectrum. Lateral Thinking is defined as the solving of problems by an indirect and creative approach, typically through viewing the problem in a new and unusual light. Neurodiverse people can make interesting connections and approach problems in a fresh and unique way. This is why our current logo features a connected brain but we are open to other options. Interesting options might be references to constellations (connections), neurons (interconnectedness), bubbles (ideas), light (brilliance) or puzzles (intelligence). It’s important to avoid using offensive colors/imagery across cultures.

Our current name and logo are beautiful (love our brain!) but we need something fresh that easily identifies our brand, speaks to smart GenZ professionals early in their career, enhances our credibility and shapes our image as an Inclusive tech learning platform so we are open to new ideas. We'd like to stay with a similar color palette as our previous brand (TheLateralAgency) but modernize and have a better logo narrative. Emotionally, we'd like the logo to inspire confidence, joy, intelligence and inclusion. We also think that highlighting "Lateral" as our brand name is better branding.

Our programs are currently only offered via Web (not mobile yet) but we are seeking to expand our offering, so please keep that in mind. While we currently only offer our programs through the Thinkific platform, we are planning on expanding onto other formats (media). We plan to advertise on TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and BtoB so the branding has to be professional & innovative yet approachable.

Some interesting competitors/inspirations are ProductSchool, GrowthTribe, CodeAcademy and similar companies, none focuses on inclusion.
