Logo Design Brief

My 15 year old son has been racing karts since he was 4 and is now racing cars. Would like a simple, clean and professional looking logo to put on shirts, hats etc. I had a friend do the attached logo which isn't bad but it's not original. I think he copied it from somewhere. I would like the logo to be nice and clean with only 1 or 2 colors or maybe 2-3 at most. I'm going to attach a page with links to some logos I found attractive to give you perspective of the kinds of things I like. Could potentially still incorporate initials and name.
