Logo Design Brief

We need to "update" a logo for a firm that feels like an evolution rather than a complete redesign, i.e. it has to look like the previous logo. We will be using this logo very flexibly, so it will need to look good in a variety of color ways - red, white, and transparent (for watermark and overlay on website). We'd also like to be able to use it with and without the logo text. The images attached are current logo with and without text.
