Logo Design Brief

The Great Lakes Herring Gull Contaminant Monitoring Program has been monitoring contaminants (like PCBs) in the Great Lakes since the 1970s. The data is published in scientific journals, and is given to government agencies, NGOs, and other organizations. Every year we collect gull eggs to monitor contaminants by boating to colonies, sampling eggs, and analyzing them in our laboratory. We would like a design that includes herring gulls (note: there are many species of gulls), one that is not too complex, and it can contain an image of eggs (if so, make it accurate for the species), and if the Great Lakes can be incorporated, either directly or on the side, the better.

I am unsure what to have to indicate contaminants, but any inclusion should be not overwhelming; no skull and cross bones, please! Also, am looking for non cartoonish-drawings - it isn't supposed to be humorous.
