Ehm... "spiga" is not a latin word.
maybe you mean spicam? and in latin is not spike, but is wheat.
Maybe you got confused with "Spiga" which is a Star of the Virgo constellation? :)

Correct, what I meant to say is the wheat spike. And yes, is not directly from latin (have thought of so many versions). Is actually in Italian. Didn't know about the star!
