Web Design Brief

I have created and launched a web site, http://www.MySkillsMap.com/, aimed at helping customers actively manage their career and personal development by tracking and sharing their skills development progress.

The site is in open beta at the moment and has a "basic" look and feel. Although I have received and incorporated some feedback from a couple web designers, I need to get to the next iteration of the look/design to make it:
- more attractive
- crisper in terms of layout/visual organization
- visually more professional so that it can stand side by side with sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, ODesk, DesignCrowd, StackOverflow as I would like to integrate with them at some point.
The idea of the site is to help you with career and personal development so it should inspire confidence yet have a "hip" aspect to it since I am targeting people who are used to see/use/build/test good web sites.

So I would like the following:

1) An alternative layout/color scheme/global navigation for the home page. The deliverable can consist of a Photoshop file, a CSS file for the basic styles/colors, and a basic example HTML layout file to illustrate the concept. I will then take that and adapt my current implementation. I would also like you to include a basic logo for the site and a favicon.

2) 2 components for a separate web page (my blog: http://blog.monnet-usa.com/):

a) a nicer looking "my Skills Map widget" (see the one I have on the right hand side of my blog".
Since the skills widget is packaged, included via Javascript from www.myskillsmap.com based on the widget id of the customer, the list of project/activities/skills are dynamic. I would like a really attractive and professional widget. I would need the HTML, CSS styles, and a sprite png file if needed.

b) a banner ad to include on my blog and other partner sites. The ad can be animated if needed (as long as it is not using Flash/Silverlight/Java)

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any clarification.

Updates

None of the designers so far have registered on the mySkillsMap site to get a sense of the features. I think it is important to do that otherwise you will be designing the home page in a vacuum.
Also nobody has submitted a design for the skills widget I was asking for (the second page). You can see a live example on the right hand side of my blog at http://blog.monnet-usa.com under my Skills Map.

Target Market(s)

Initially I am envisioning the target audience to include: software architects, developers, web designers, software designers, testers, technology consultants, IT business analysts, IT project managers, software hobbyists, web/computer/technology enthusiasts.

In the long run the audience could be expanded to other professionals interested in tracking their skills to help manage their career.
