Web Design Brief

Current Website: www.justjen.com

We are looking for a re-design of the Just Jen website homepage, which will be the start of whole website redesign. The purpose of this website redesign is twofold. First, we need to improve the consistency of the visual design and make sure that it is mobile-optimized (mobile-first design). Second, we want to re-create the site with extensive integration of editorial and “product feature” content that increases user engagement with the site and also improves SEO. So this design will be a commerce/blog site, with the blog content seamlessly integrated into the commerce site, not a separate part of the site.

The new website will be built as a headless, progressive web application (PWA) with a Magento ecommerce backend. The headless frontend will integrate with a blog platform, to allow for full integration of commerce and editorial content. Designer does not need to complete any programming, but should keep in mind that we are not limited by traditional ecommerce platforms.

Future Business
JustJen.com will focus on becoming a marketplace for gifts and customized products that are related to specific events and people in the life of a woman - weddings, maternity, birthdays, graduations, holidays and family relationships (mom, dad, sister, brother). We are going to expand the product offering of Just Jen into more product types (household items, decorations, knick-knacks), beyond the rhinestone apparel on the site now.

Just Jen is a curated collection of products. We will select a small collection of the best product ideas, from reliable vendors.

The new Just Jen website will be chock full of editorial content related to the events in family life. The future of Just Jen is a hybrid site, commerce and content, wrapped together in a wonderful package. An example of site that integrates editorial content and commerce is https://www.thedarlingdetail.com, although this site is more of a blog with commerce integrated and we want an ecommerce site with blog integrated.

Creative Direction
The visual style of Just Jen should be driven by the product merchandising and editorial content sections. Although we want a strong brand identity, the branding needs to not conflict or over-power the content of the site.

Colors:
We are open to a completely new color scheme, or to using the current salmon color. The colors should skew slightly female, but not so far that we cannot sell products for men on the site.

Logo:
We like the icon in our current logo, but don’t like the current type style. We are also open to creating a new logo, or changing the treatment of our current logo. This will be a separate project.

Homepage Design Task
The homepage design needs to weave together commerce and content sections. Below is the content that needs to be featured on this page.

Commerce Content
Custom Rhinestone Apparel - Banner highlighting our custom rhinestone apparel. On our existing site, www.justjen.com, the top 2 sections are both about custom rhinestone apparel, but this should be merged into one message, so it is more efficient.

Everyday - A collection of everyday rhinestone fashions. Our “everyday” products will be tops and activewear that is embellished with rhinestone accents. I can provide more details if needed.

Celebrate! - Section that highlights all the life events that fall into celebrations - birthday, maternity, graduation, anniversary. This section could also include an editorial part that is an article related to a holiday or celebration event.

Spiritwear - Section that highlights our cheer and sports team custom designs.

Deal of the Day - A deal of the day banner that features the best deals from each of our major product categories.

Editorial Content
Featured Lookbook - Lookbook section for one of the main product categories. A lookbook is a collection of items that go together in a collection.

Article Highlight - An article with related content that is featured in the section. For example, in the spiritwear section, there might be an article on how to get a team prepared for competition. These article highlights would link to the full page design.

Lifestyle Feature - A post related to overall lifestyle of the target audience. This could be fashion, home decor or event planning related and will swap out on a regular basis.

Deal of the Week/Day - Rotating product deal feature that will create daily freshness to the site. This section should pull a deal from several of our product categories.

Gift Idea - Review of a cool gift idea for a specific occasion.

Target Market(s)

Females aged 22-50 – products for themselves and gifts for children and friends. Our target audience is middle-to-upper-class, but still wants value for their money.

Please keep in mind that our target audience is not the teenage crowd, and we are not a trend-driven brand.

Requirements
Must have
  • Deliverable on this project is a homepage design only, however, the design will set the direction for the rest of the site. The winning designer may have an opportunity to do work on many more interior pages and landing pages.

The design must be designed so that it can be responsively programmed and will work as a mobile design.
Nice to have
  • Good organization of content on the page that can be used as a template for other pages on the site. In particular, the integration of commerce and content elements effectively will be very important.
