Logo Design Brief
Hello there! We are Sonya and Michael and Gregory. We are a family who is purchasing a small historic hotel at the confluence of the Downie and Yuba Rivers in Downieville, CA. The current branding has been in place since the 1990s, and the hotel was built in the 1930s.
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create the new look and feel of our hotel's branding! We would love to offer you the payment here, and of course a full photo shoot and overnight stay in the hotel at no cost under the new sign (with your logo development skills shown) to add to your portfolio! All other costs of the trip to get out here in the Tahoe National Forest are yours, and you do not have to take us up on it. We can also just email you photos of the logo sign once it is done!
Here is a great video about the town and market to help you understand the market for this hotel: https://youtu.be/lFAuFH9V5mc We would like a young and hip vibe.
In the images section, I have added a few ideas we have for the new hotel's look! Also a picture of the current logo and branding as it appears on the front of the hotel now.
Also, just for ideas on logo and style we added the Icon pass media kit - as we enjoy the colors and sporty vibe of this design. I also like how they did the background with small sporty icons. Please don't think you have to copy this. It is just an inspiration.
You can see the image of the hotel is one that is simple and has a red trim. I think we want to carry that color into the logo. We would like to see the logo in both a square format, and also a longer format that can be used on something like letterhead. That way we can see it in two versions.
Keep in mind it cannot be too ornate, and could look very close the samples we started or totally different. We want to work with the same designer for all our start up projects, and possible develop a longer term relationship with a designer to work with you throughout the years as we grow! We will need social media posts, headers for all sites, flyers, trifolds, a map of the area, and so much more!
Target Market(s)
Mountain bikers, millennials, gen x, travelers, Bay Area vacationers, etc.
Mountain Bikers
The town is a popular destination and central hub for mountain biking trails and events. The renowned "Downieville Downhill" single-track trail has a 4,400 feet (1,300 m) drop over its 17 miles (27 km) length. The town boasts shuttles to the trailhead, which is its terminus.
The trails include long and narrow suspension footbridges across canyons and streams. The town hosts the world-famous Downieville Classic mountain biking races, a two-day event with a Super-D downhill race, and an extremely challenging cross-country cycling race. Many other races and mountain biking festivals and championships are held in the area, and Carriage House will welcome these guests with open arms via targeted marketing and outreach.
Millennials
Millennials now account for 38 percent of the 75 million active camper households in the U.S., up from 34 percent in 2017, and 51 percent say they plan to increase their camping this year. Results of the survey indicate that these younger campers are using camping to add more balance to their lives. Their key reasons for camping include:
spending more time with friends and family
being physically active
improving their overall emotional well-being and health
We want our hotel to be considered as an alternative to camping as it is in the midst of all outdoor activities without the need for a tent.
