Logo Design Brief

Create a logo for a youth soccer league in Virginia, USA.
This youth soccer league is currently known as the Virginia Premier League or VPL and we will be re-incorporating as Virginia Premier Soccer League as we had to make some changes internally. That being said, the league is made up fo 11 member clubs who play all of their U11 through U19 boys and girls teams in this league for a year around competition in futbol (soccer).
Thus this logo will displayed by all of the members' websites and potentially as a patch logo as well on the sleeves of all league jerseys.
The logo will carry a lot of weight in the marketing of the league as well. We have ideas of expansion and therefore have to have a logo that is unique, relevant, timely, and also "cool" or in other words matches the culture of our stakeholders and the ones who we want to attract(see target mkt below)
Perhaps it may be helpful to look at the soccer clubs' logos who are actually playing in our league. This may or may not help. Perhaps it will anchor some designers too much - not sure.

Requirements

Must have

• soccer related items such as a goal, a ball (not classic version, but more modern or futuristic look), a player, etc. or something unique to the state of Virginia (state bird, tree, flag, motto, etc. and that in combination with the sport and perhaps an action move or common usage/move.

Nice to have

• May be nice to have portions of the geographic footprint of the entity (soccer league) in this case all participating soccer clubs in this league are in the state of Virginia.

Should not have

• boring and standard designs that have been passed on through the ages and are sort of not unique.
