Character Design Brief

Im looking to have a character to place on a shirt. I would like for the character to be a young african american boy around the age of 8 or 9 years old. In his hands i would like a poster board sign in each hand. i have a sketch of the idea below as well as a photo of a character that i would like to emulate. The photo does not have to look like the character. I would like the character to be created. I also want the character to be large enough to cover majority of the front shirt! Thank You!!
