Label Design Brief

Smug Brewing Company will manufacture unique artisan beers in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, starting in the fall of 2018 - be our label designer !!

the word "Smug" means confident... we want our label designs to portray confidence, and to therefore exude confidence in our customers. we intend our brand to be edgy yet high-end.

This job is for graphic design for our flagship beer, "Driving Miss Hazy", our New England IPA.

New England IPA
“Driving Miss Hazy”
Description: This Hazy IPA will drive you crazy with tons of tropical and citrus aroma. A cloudy straw color is traditional for the beer style. Remember to enjoy beer drink responsibly or have someone give you a lift ;)
8% ABV, 50IBU

Not necessarily to be incorporated into the label design, but the background story behind this beer name is a play on words.. 1) The movie, "driving miss daisy", 2) another name for this type of beer is a "Hazy IPA" . 3) is Our brewer's baby girl's name is Hazel- She's a cutie.

We are not certain whether we want the brewery name "Smug Brewing Company" and logo emphasized, or minimized in favor of the name of the beer and its associated graphics. we would entertain either type of design.


We have 3 other labels to design, and it is likely that we'll use the winning designer for those in order to keep the designs consistent. We want the design of this label to consider that there will be other labels forthcoming and that we'd like some element of consistency from one label to the next - for example, a part of the logo (colors, the rooster head, etc)

one look that we gravitate towards is a dark background with the white version of our logo (see one attachment). possibly each beer label design could be different dark background with same white logo or standalone rooster.

Technicals for this is that it will be used for a 16 ounce can. It also needs to have the required information on it as is described here:
