Book Cover Design Brief

I have a book cover designed in the early 90's that is severely outdated and I need a complete redesign of it.

It is for a parenting book called "Parenting 101"

I'm looking for a fresh, new, clean design - not a remake of the old cover. I will attach the old cover simply as a reference for the copy/text that should be included on the front and back.

The book is about parenting for people with kids of all ages. The current design is too "child" oriented (photos and colors) and the feeling is that the book is for only parents with younger children, when in fact the book's principles are universal for young children, teenagers, and even troubled/severely troubled teenagers.

The design should communicate that the book is authoritative, and easy to implement. Authoritative as in a bestselling book/author celebrity author rather than a college professor essay. Easy to implement as in the book give you a specific plan/blueprint rather than just a bunch of psychology ideas.

There should be some kind of "orange" element in the design since it is one of 4 books in a set and the content of the books reference the other books by color (orange, blue, green, red) - but the color does not need to be the entire cover as it is currently. If the 4 books were together you would be able to easily identify which was the blue, orange, green or red book.

The current photos show "happy families" and young children, but like said above the photos of only young children exclude the books effectiveness for older children and teens. The "happy families" photos also seem to convey an "infomercial" feel that I don't like because it feels a little staged/stock and possibly unobtainable. I would like to leave the image of an ideal outcome/family to the imagination of the reader, so photos of people/families are not necessary - but photos are not out of the question.

The logo "theParenting Solution" will be attached to the project files for inclusion.

The logo "American Parenting Institute" on the current cover will NOT be included on the new cover.
