Book Cover Design Brief

The author/hero is an irreverent detective, with a very sharp tongue and a tremendous amount of self-deprecating humor. Toni Bega's novels are fast paced and even faster LOL'ed.

Books covers need to be as unique as Toni Bega's writing and instant recognizable from light-years away. Being part of a series, there must be certain "fixed" elements than can be used in future iterations (like graphic elements, certain typology of photos, fonts etc).
Please use the cover for the first Toni Bega book (the pdf "laser_frate_cover" in the attachments area of this brief) as reference.

Each title of a TB book is very far fetched from its content. This is also the case with the current one - "111: Numarul Fierei" (111: The Number of The Sorrow) is a Romanian wordplay between "numarul fiarei" (the number of the beast) and "numarul fierei" (the number of the sorrows), which sounds very similar.

Key elements of the story that can be used for cover illustration: Transylvania, castle, Dracula, Vlad the Impaler, Clock Tower from Sighisoara town (the birthplace of Dracula/Vlad). Illustration needs to be royalty-free.

The format of the book is paperback, 215 pages, 5.25"x8.00", 0.48" spine (please see the "layout_guidelines" file from attachments for all necessary technical information)

Requirements
Must have
  • Book title: "111: Numarul Fierei"
(depending on the layout arrangement, the colon can be kept or removed; please be careful with the cedilla above the "a" letter from "numarul", since it's compulsory; for visualization purposes only, I uploaded the pdf "title_spelling" in attachments area )

    Author name: Toni Bega

    Blurb text on the back
(this section needs to be editable in the final file and "lorem ipsum" will do just fine for now; length max for 100 words)

A 2x2 cm white square on the back for barcode
(please use the pdf "layout_guidelines" from attachments area for the layout dimensions, bleeds, spine etc)
Nice to have
  • Sort of a "stamp" from the initials of the author's name (letters T and B). This is just an idea, in line with the "instant recognizable" stuff I mentioned in the task description. But since "TB" also stands for "tuberculosis" on certain countries, this needs to look as healthy as possible :)
As an example, please see the pdf file "laser_frate_cover" in the attachments area.
