Logo Design Brief
Our organization -- Young Artists of America -- is a performing arts non-profit that works with talented High School and Middle School vocal and instrumental performers. We stage innovative shows at premier venues featuring full orchestra on stage with vocalists performing sung-through versions of classical and modern musical theater. We are selective as to the participants in our programs, and all students audition for acceptance in both the orchestra and vocal groups. Rehearsal schedules are rigorous, and each year we have one or more well known professional composers/lyricists or stage performers work with our students as they prepare for a production, typically appearing with the students on stage. Our organization also runs an expanding set of intensive summer arts programs in a camp format for students. You can view many performance videos and further details about the organization on our website at http://www.youngartistsamerica.org/
This project is for the redesign of our logo.
CURRENT LOGO: Our current logo can be found on our website at http://www.youngartistsamerica.org/ and is also attached for reference. The two most obvious issues with the current logo are 1) text treatment overemphasizes the word "America" through larger font and script style, and 2) the icon (g-clef inside capital), is not attractive/appealing and does not convey a distinct identity.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not want the new design to include the words "at Strathmore" that are in the current design.
LOGO REDESIGN: We are interested in a new logo design that communicates a more modern image with greater appeal to our youth market, while at the same time still conveying the selectivity/exclusivity and quality of our programs and performances (especially important for parents of students and for attracting professional artists). As our organization name is a bit long, we are often referred to by the acronym "YAA" (short for Young Artists of America), and as such, we are open to logo designs that emphasize these initial letters in a full text treatment, and/or that incorporate an icon using the letters YAA. Given our emphasis on education as well as arts, the notion of "academy" or "institute" might be something to keep in mind for logo design/style.
Font: We generally prefer the use of sans-serif font. Open to very selective use of brush-stroke font to emphasize creativity (not required)
Color: Open as to color choices that convey both creativity and professionalism
Logo Types: Ideally a new logo would include a word treatment of the full organization name (Young Artists of America), as well as an icon that could be used in conjunction or separately for different applications. In particular, we are interested in "YAA" icon designs using a monogram treatment (in a circle, octagon, etc.), but are of course open to other creative ideas.
Logo Use: The logo will be used on the web (including mobile), in print advertising and playbills, on merchandise and on retail/POS signage -- so it needs to be legible and recognizable in all of these scales.
