Logo Design Brief

Logo for YouTuber

I make short films that I post on YouTube. You can view my work by searching “John McManus” on YouTube. I’m usually the first listing returned by the YouTube search engine. My recent film titles are ‘Comics Festival 2017’ and “Taking it to the Streets – the YES Party in Canberra”. I would like a logo that can be used on a business card, web site and on my YouTube channel.

The logo will initially be used on a business card that I can give people when I’m ‘out and about’ shooting footage. People ask me what I’m doing when I’m filming, and I usual respond with the following . . . “I’m making a short film. It will be posted on YouTube in the next day or two”. It’s at this point I would like to hand them a business card with my name on it. That way they can find the video on YouTube without having to remember my name later on.

The logo should be classy, but simple and memorable. It should contain my name the YouTube logo/wordmark and my email address (johnmcmanus@australiamail.com). It might have a hint of ‘unpredictable’ or ‘randomness’ even (my films cover at least a couple of genres) - and ‘playfulness’ about it. There will need to be some cohesiveness between the elements (i.e. my name, YouTube wordmark, the email address and logo). The overall experience should convey creativeness and remind people that they need to go to YouTube, find my channel and watch my film.

Target Market(s)

My goal is to build exposure and increase subscriber numbers. My videos are a combination of vlogs and micro-documentaries. Eventually I would like to monetise my channel. So the logo needs to meet my current needs as a YouTube 'beginner' but still be appropriate when my content becomes more professional and targeted.

Must have

• Easily viewable on small screens such as mobile phones as well as computer screens. Must have broad appeal as my 'target market' and 'value proposition' is still evolving. Must work well electronically and on a business card. Must be classy.

Nice to have

• Nice if it works as a watermark on my videos - but not essential.

Should not have

• Corporate or business or government feel.
