Logo Design Brief

We need a logo design for a new app we're currently developing. The project is all about sports, and will help local tournaments and leagues manage their competitions online. Since it's brand new, we're open to any approach and colors. The logo should probably scream sports as soon as you see it, similar to how the Pockets logo screams billiards:
