T-shirt Design Brief
We need a t-shirt logo design for our annual conference, the STARS Celebration of Broadening Participation in Computing (www.starscelebration.org). The STARS Celebration is a full-day event for college students and faculty who are interested in becoming change agents that take action to increase participation of women, African American, Hispanic, and Latinx students in computer science. For more info, so www.starscelebration.org.
The conference program includes hands-on training workshops for conducting computer science outreach programs for K-12 students and a student poster session highlighting the projects that STARS students have led over the past year. In addition, we offer sessions for students and faculty on best practices in broadening participation in computing and how to recognize and address implicit biases and privilege as preparation for leading outreach programs.
Most importantly, the STARS Celebration event helps to build and sustain the STARS Computing Corps (www.starscomputingcorps.org) community, a national alliance of 50 colleges and universities with a mission to broaden participation of women and people of color in computing. College student members of STARS lead projects in the community that are designed to introduce computing concepts in a fun and engaging way and to provide information about possible career paths in computing. Since 2006, STARS students have reached over 136,000 K-12 students in outreach programs that teach computing concepts. Our membership is diverse: 50% of our members are women and 50% are African American.
A tag line that defines our mission is "developing student and faculty leaders to broaden participation in computing".
STARS stands for Students in Technology, Academia, Research and Service. I don't want the name spelled out, but I thought it would be nice to include it here for context.
I included our original logos, an informational sheet about STARS, and last year's conference t-shirt design with this packet.
