Book Cover Design Brief

I need a book cover for a horror novel called PAINTED.
The setting is an old house full of portraits. A team has been dispatched to catalogue the art and antiques. Every wall is covered with portraits - oil paintings, watercolours, sketches. The art terrorises the team from the auction house. Think "Caravaggio Meets Poltergeist".
I'm looking for a cover which leans more towards the art side of the story. I like the idea of using a famous artist's self portrait, but smearing the face or something similar. Or a wall full of portraits.

• Lots of portraits, but I am comfortable with one striking image.
