We are a new non-profit organization in the Seattle area looking for a logo that will become the springboard for all our marketing materials.
We facilitate art groups for people with memory loss using a variety of mediums (i.e., watercolor, pastel, acrylic, collage). In addition, our goal is to train other artists (visual, music, drama, dance, etc.) and connect them with people and facilities in the community who are caring for those with dementia. We also advocate for the therapeutic value of art in dementia care through educational outreach.
Updates
Project Deadline Extended Reason: Because I received a lot of last minute submissions, I'm going to extend for 5 days, so I can provide feedback. I will also eliminate designs not in contention. I will also be updating the brief to try and clarify my requirements. Thank you for your submissions. Added Tuesday, March 28, 2017
I updated the brief and attached some sample logos to try and convey what we're looking for in a logo. These samples don't have anything to do with our mission in the hopes that they'll inspire your imagination rather than confine it. I would rather the design go over-the-top than play-it-safe, since I think it gives me more to work with for feedback. I hope this helps. I'll be providing feedback tonight and tomorrow on existing designs. Thank you! Added Wednesday, March 29, 2017
I created a poll to receive feedback from colleagues on the final 3 designs. I'll be posting a winner soon. Thanks very much! Added Tuesday, April 4, 2017

Requirements
Must have
- 1. The logo should reflect our mission:
- To enhance the lives of people living with dementia and their care partners through creative arts experiences, and to promote the value of arts programming in dementia care. We use artistic expression to help unlock creativity, create new memories, and strengthen relationships.
- 2. The logo should be COLORFUL (by this I mean 3+ colors), CREATIVE, FUN, and ORIGINAL, but not too childish, since the audience is adults. It will be used for marketing items such as T-shirts, banners, totes, etc. (not just business cards and letterhead), so eye-catching is important.
- 3. I'm open to font suggestions as long as they are easy to read, since a large portion of our audience are older adults. They shouldn't fight with the image, and I'm not a fan of retro-70s, old-timey, or tech fonts, for this project.
- 4. The logo should convert to grayscale without losing its quality and intent.
- 5. The final logo must have versions that display well on a white/light color or on a black/dark color.
- 6. File formats should include a vector image that can be enlarged or reduced without losing quality, as well as the standard jpeg, png, etc.
Nice to have
- NEW ATTACHMENTS: Inspirational logo designs that try show creative images and how I would like the image and lettering to be related, possibly intertwined or above and below the text. The goal is to create a logo that is also a brand. The image should be creative and distinct - see one of my favorites (non-profit for African wildlife).
Should not have
- • I do NOT want a standard "corporate" logo with a line of text with a simple symbol above it. This is a creative business, so the image should also be creative. If the layout is an image above text, it needs to be original and eye-catching (see the other African wildlife logo - simple, but creative above a line of text).
- • The logo should NOT look like it’s for a business targeting children. The audience is adults, so "cutesy" won't be a good fit.
- • The logo should NOT be just 2 colors. 3 minimum, please, and not a palette of pastels.
