Book Cover Design Brief

Hi, I need a cover designed for my new book. It's a fiction novel with humour as well as serious parts to the storyline. I have put below the synopsis, key words and also some ideas of how I would like it to look, although I'm quite open to different ideas. The book will be published through amazon kindle and ibooks as well as having a paperback option ordered through lulu.com, therefore I need the final cover to be in slightly different quality formats (all detailed below!)

Key themes:
The idea of becoming lost climbing the career ladder
The main character becomes trapped in his daily routine, queuing in traffic or on tube
He eventually discovers his boss and his company both have a sinister aim
Things happened in the past and are happening in the shadows within the story
His company wants to sanitise the planet to eliminate all viruses, bacteria etc.

Other key parts to storyline:
Eventually find out his father had heart attack in his car queuing at railway crossing
His mum refuses to accept his father is dead; refers to the shadows in house
Shadows at work from the dangerous things going on he is not seeing

SYNOPSIS:

Meet Ryan, the guy who has it all - the body, the girls, and the perfect pad in Canary Wharf. His career at Global United Eradication is flawless, as he helps them in their quest to sanitise the entire planet.

He’s climbing his way up that golden ladder and doesn’t care about the lives or the past stories of those around him. He’s playing to win; competing against a shadow set by his father, and trying to please his ever-demanding boss. Even when he struggles through his daily routine, fighting against endless traffic and tube delays, he thinks only about his future. And with the help of his crazy friend, Ken, they plan to break as many of the company rules as needed to beat that long corporate queue to the top.

But as his boss’s demands get more sinister, Ryan finds out that the past he had no interest in is very much alive. As he uncovers a darker part of Global United Eradication, those who gave him his lifestyle ask for too much in return, and he realises that he must put things right and help the people he previously climbed all over. With no one around him that he can trust and time running out he learns that having it all can still mean you have nothing.

COVER IDEAS:

Idea 1 - A ladder that leads into the shadows above, a queue of people snaking up to the ladder, climbing it, stuck on it, queuing up to it.

Idea 2 - A queue of people leading up to a large bottle (supposed to sanitiser) someone inside it and someone else dropping out the other end. Perhaps a ladder to climb to get into it.

Idea 3 - A long line of cars with break lights, leading into a dark mist/shadows. Probably my least fav but thought i'd put it as you creative types can work wonders!

Have attached a PDF of the brief, most of it detailed here but gives some very rough images to think about. They are just for guide - I don't want the whole cover to be dark and mysterious. Would like some of it to be white, perhaps with grey shadows above, the ladder or the people taking centre stage.

Weather it's real people images or characterisations i'm open to see what you can do.

Size requirements for paperback detailed below. I think both the paperback images and the amazon kindle ones listed are the standard ones, you guys will hopefully know best.

Main sales will be through e book so the standard image size requirements for this please. Amazon details this as:
• A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side
• For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side

Secondary sales will be print on demand with lulu.com using cover wizard. The front and back will be uploaded as separate images so need to be sent like this please. The spine in the middle I will use same colour from front/back and add title in. Size for the book and therefore image will be 6"x9" (15.24 x 22.86) but lulu recommend making it slightly bigger 6.125 x 9.25. Hope that makes sense!

Image dpi to be whatever you believe the standard is required for upload.

Preferred colour pallet: Black, red, grey, white... open to ideas though!

Modern fonts: Bold not comical

Requirements

Must have

• The front cover will need to have the main artwork, Title (Queues Likely) author name (Lee Kerr).
  
  The back cover needs to be consistent colour with the front and will need the synopsis put into it (see above). Space left at the bottom right for barcode (will be added later for paperback) but it would be great to have a continuation image on the left. Plus anything else that works.

  Although the story makes reference to the 'Queues likely' road signs these should not be used for obvious copyright reasons.
