Illustration Design Brief
I need to illustrate some concepts about urban gardening, to be used in an academic publication. Please see the attached sketch which shows the concept and the elements, but you can feel free to move things around. (You can also see why I want to hire you - I'm no artist!!!) I would like the drawing to incorporate the following elements:
1) a home, modest, middle or lower-middle class. A sidewalk out front and a fence in back, to show that this is an urban environment (not out in the country!). This home is in Fort Collins, Colorado, although that does not need to be shown.
2) a couple of rasied vegetable garden beds.
3) some fruit trees and bushes (raspberries?), shown in the sketch to the left of the house, although it could be elsewhere.
4) a rainwater collection barrel, with a hose coming out to water the garden.
5) a stream in the background. (to remind people that water runs off into streams, along with any potential pollutants)
6) a small chicken coop with 3 chickens
7) a grandmother and grandchild working in the garden - would be great if you couldn't really tell their race, or maybe Hispanic.
8) a compost bin, maybe with a shovel leaning against it
I am looking to illustrate
1) water cycling (through rainwater collection and stream)
2) nutrient cycling (compost bin)
3) social nature of gardening (grandmother teaching her grandchild, they're outside enjoying nice weather and a healthy pastime together).
