Logo Design Brief
I am just starting out and I want to get a logo or a word mark or a combination to use on my website and business card - something sharp and professional. We specialize in a variety of emergency preparedness, planning and response activities - mostly looking at helping companies mitigate risk to natural and man-made hazards. I'd like a design that fits into the current word-mark landscape but that also stands out a bit.
I played with a bit of a logo that represents knowledge and the company's Canadian roots - I've loaded those for reference but they should only be inspiration for you. Also for reference:

Requirements
Must have
- The winning logo will likely be classic-looking, simple but artful at the same time - I am a fan of artists rather than computer-driven effects. Ideally the piece will look good in colour or greyscale and will not require 3D shadow and depth effects to standout (though that certainly doesn't mean I am opposed to their use)
- I want to stress to artists that I am open to creativity so please use this as a guideline, but really, I'm interested in your ideas.
Nice to have
- I am a fan of Green/black for a colour scheme, but not glued to it - I am open to other opinions. My tastes are more reserved for colours and I prefer darker, deeper, richer palettes.
Should not have
- The designs should avoid the following:
- -Too much complexity (more than 3-4 items/objects is probably too much - If you look at the sample logos, Nestle and LA KINGS are too busy for my preference)
- -Two letter marks - combinations of E & S, unless really compelling and creative are not what I am looking for.
- -3D rendered words (unless they are really good and add to the design, 3D shadow and depth effects are not my taste)
- -Neon, pastel or washed-out colours (I prefer strong, rich colours)
