Logo Design Brief
Purpose of the brief
The logo is required for the Historic Vermont House condominium association to use on its website, letterhead and other marketing materials such as a brochure.
Marketing Objectives
The broad marketing objectives of all our marketing materials are:
- To promote the benefits of living in Vermont House to owners, tenants and potential purchasers and tenants
- To increase the market value of units
- To promote the businesses in Vermont House
- To build a sense of community among all residents (owners and tenants)
Background
Vermont House is a heritage building, built in 1910, in downtown Burlington, Vermont in the USA, situated overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Burlington is a lively university town of about 40,000 people, where there is always lots happening - socially, intellectually, outdoor activities, festivals etc.
ositioning statement
The positioning statement for the building is:
Historic Vermont house: downtown living in a setting of natural beauty
Target Market
Our target audience is very diverse as the building is eight stories high, with 58 residential units (studio, 1 and 2 bedroom); ) and 10 businesses (restaurant, lawyers, tax accountants, hairdressers, bar). The residents range from university students to young professionals to retirees. They may own their own unit or be renting; or they may be looking to buy or rent a unit.
Updates
Dear Designers,
We have been so impressed with the designs we have seen so far that we have changed our position on guaranteeing the design work. We are confident we will definitely get a design we are happy with.
Good work and good luck to you all.
Cheers

Please see the new uploaded photograph of an architectural detail on Vermont House in case you want to explore this as a potential design element for the logo.
I would also be keen to see some more symbolic representations of the building / lake / mountains if that can be made to work. When I say mountains please look at the photo of the view across the lake to the mountains - they are soft and rolling, not Swiss Alps :-)

I have posted a link to http://www.swanriversidegardens.org/ to show a more symbolic representation of a logo in case any of you want to pursue that idea.

Requirements
Must have
- We would like the logo to reflect the unique character of our heritage building while still being stylish and having contemporary flair and relevance.
Our preference is for a combination of an image and the brand name. The image could be an architectural feature of the building or a symbolic representation of the building with the lake, for example but all that is over to you.
The logo needs to work both in colour and black and white, and we would like both horizontal and vertical versions of the final design. Ideally, we would also like it to work in reverse on a solid colour background.
The reason why we have not chosen either "traditional" or "modern" in the look and feel slider is that we want a contemporary, stylish feel in the sense that heritage / historic doesn't mean old fashioned or out of date.
Nice to have
- Some options to explore might be:
- 1920’s Art Deco typeface and image style
- An emphasis on the historic nature of the building
- An emphasis on the beautiful natural surroundings
Should not have
- Please avoid complex or cluttered designs because it may be quite small in some uses.
