ABOUT
I was blessed to be raised by and around people with talent. In my extended family were people with gifts of quilting, photography, knitting, crocheting, painting, music, cooking, writing and other artistic talents. Those people as well as their gifts shaped me and what I value.
When I was about 10, Grams gave me a camera and from that gift grew my love of nature and photography. Some of my favorite memories with her are in nature, especially the family reunions at Westport. I feel most connected to her when I am wandering in nature snapping photos.
Growing up, I would frequently stay weekends with Grandma Dickie. She was my great grandmother and she lived to be 96. I loved hearing about what life was like before planes flew and houses had indoor plumbing. During those special weekends she taught me to piece and hand stitch “crazy quilts” while sharing her memories of what we call history.
My favorite great aunt, Aunt Dot, knitted and crocheted beautifully. Each year we would receive something she had crafted for us with her own hands. Our favorite were knitted slippers. Even now, years after she has passed, my sisters and I give each other "Aunt Dot" presents.
The pictorial quilts crafted for “The Candle, Book and Bean” are born from the gifts of my grandmothers. The afghans are an homage to my great aunt.
The Candle, Book and Bean strives to bring together gifts and talents of many people to offer our customers high quality products created by artists and craftspeople in the Pacific Northwest."
