Logo Design Brief

UPDATED: Second place budget: $100

I need a logo for a YouTube channel and a webpage called "Things I Make". The channel will be mainly about making creative projects with woodworking and electronics but it's not strictly limited to those areas. There will be a musical component too in the video editing and many of the things I will be making will be musical instruments or music related projects (again not all the content will be strictly related to making musical instruments but some of it will). The videos will show me working in the shop working with tools, wood, and also in the lab soldering electronics, LEDs, speakers, and who knows what else.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE READING: The following are just general guidelines but if you feel that you need to stray from these guidelines to make a really creative and original logo, please go right ahead! I'm always open to creative ideas! Don't see this logo as a chore but rather as a challenge. Be INSPIRED by what you do!

I've included some failed attempts that I would like people to look at while designing their own submissions. I made these with free stock icons I found on www.freepik.com so if you will be using any of these elements make sure you have the proper license. In the attachment there are three areas.

Area 1: Logo attempts by forming the letters TIM -of Things I Make- with tools. I like the idea but not how I executed it. These attempts seem too complicated and they don't necessarily convey "TIM" immediately. I'm willing to accept other options is you can make them more concise and to the point. Other elements you could use can be: rulers, combination square, protractor, paintbrush, saw, table saw, hammers, etc, etc...

Area 2: This represents a table saw with the channel name inside. This has been done to death in the maker/woodworking community so this is something to avoid. The only thing I like here is the text enclosed in a rectangle.

Area 3: These are the ones that I like the best because they stray from the norm. In particular these seem too serious. If you want to go this route then make sure you add something wacky or funny to them.

Having said the above, don't feel constrained by the above mentioned logos. I AM NOT a designer and don't expect people to explore these options if they are not inspired by them. Feel free to submit anything that INSPIRES you as long as it carries the spirit of the channel.

Attitude: The logo needs to convey creative, humorous, wacky, tongue in cheek, not-too-serious. Please avoid anything too classic, or old school but make sure the logo looks professional.

Colors: Avoid gradients and meshes. Only use solid colors and few of them. Monochrome is ok too. If you use colors, the logo should not lose anything if it's done in monochrome (this is very important!).

Enclosures: The logo can (but it's optional) be enclosed in some shape like a circle, ellipse, square, or rectangle.

Text: The logo should include the full text "Things I Make". All capital letters are fine too. I'm open to a fully textual logo as long as you modify some letters or add *something* to convey the above described attitude.
