Logo Design Brief

I need a new logo design for my small editing and design company, Amrikiyyah Design. Preferably, we're looking for a sophisticated wordmark logo (with an optional lettermark or seal style to go along with it) - see example images, but please do not just copy them! We're also open to other design styles, though (and the text doesn't have to be script, but we don't want it to look too generic). We don't want the logo to look too bold or masculine. We are also very interested in seeing custom-made lettering or fonts, although that is not a requirement.

My company mostly does copy editing/proofreading and interior book design (formatting, typesetting, designing chapters, etc), and we also occasionally do design projects like book covers and posters. We typically work in flat or modern designs, or very classic, traditional designs. Our clients are mostly book publishers publishing translations from Arabic into English. We promote ourselves as bringing high-quality, precise, and beautiful work to publishers that suffer from poorly edited and designed books - we have educational qualifications in a field filled with amateurs lacking any qualifications, and this shows in the quality of our work compared to that of competitors.

The logo will be used on digital invoices and online (our website, Twitter, email signatures). It will also probably be used on business cards, but that's really as far as its print application goes right now.

It's not important to me that I see a ton of mockups of it on paper, walls, etc, so please don't send those.

Submitting the logo just in black along with any color version is a good idea, so we can assess the logo better. We're open to seeing different colors used, but we do tend to have a preference for more muted tones (meaning, if something like yellow or green is used, we don't want it to look neon). In the past, we have liked gold, blue, grey, and other colors like this.

Requirements

Must have

• Communicates creativity as well as professionalism and precision.
• Must be adaptable for different backgrounds (i.e., it either works well on all colored backgrounds, or I can make the whole logo one color, like black or white, if I needed to).
• I prefer simple designs over ones that use lots of things like gradients or other effects.

Should not have

• Images of living beings - no animals, people, etc.
• Cheap-looking effects.
• Lots of gradients or other effects that make it too complicated of an image to use in different forms.
• Things that are TOO artistic, like a paintbrush, and things that are TOO book related (like a straight-up picture of a book).
• I'm not a fan of the whole quill and ink pot thing - it's overused with a lot of the publishers I work with.
