Logo Design Brief
I'm looking for a logo to reflect my new consultancy. I've included a file (with four different basic mock-ups) to give you a sense of what I have in my head. I'm neither a designer nor am I wed to these, but they should give you a sense of what I like and what I'm thinking. Thus, for a skilled designer, this should be a fairly easy project. I'm looking for your polish and savoir faire to get this to a better place.
With that, let me tell you a little bit about the business.
The name of the consultancy is COCUITY (a combination of the prefix CO- (meaning together) and the noun ACUITY. The tagline for the business (which may or may not be incorporated into the logo depending upon the designer's stylistic choice) is: sharper together. The attached graphic shows a line over the U (indicating a long vowel) and a pipe mark between the words "sharper" and "together." Again, these are just some preliminary ideas and not at all required for your design submission. I am, however, likely tilting towards something that is more minimalistic than not. There are no requirements for either specific colors or font choices. Instead, please use your best judgment to marry design choices to the business (and person) I describe below.
In a nutshell (and I'm happy to provide more details if need be), I'm targeting a client base of chief executives, executive directors, board members and other senior leaders of mid-sized companies, non-profit agencies, universities and government agencies. I'm hoping to offer a comprehensive -- but also highly tailorable -- suite of customizable services that senior leaders could tap into, either on an a la carte basis or under the terms of a retainer agreement. Types of services include but are not limited to:
- Strategic planning -- brainstorming, facilitation, documentation;
- Speechwriting and, as necessary, personalized speech coaching;
- Professional writing -- high-level prose written for the level of the C-suite;
- Executive team development, including retreat design and facilitation;
- Organizational change management and business process analysis;
- Budget and financial planning and analysis;
- Data visualization (showing complex information in elegant ways).
It's my experience that many leaders are looking for high level support in many (or in some cases, in all) of these areas but have insufficient resources to hire a full-time professional. Beyond the kinds of positions indicated above, the target client is one leading an organization that has grown sufficiently large and complex as to require more sophisticated support, but is NOT so big has to have many, many layers of bureaucracy. In addition, my IDEAL arrangement would be to have 5-7 enduring clients on retainer, and leave room for another 4-5 project-based assignments per year. All of this works better if I have a sustained and collaborative relationship with the target leaders.
I suppose it's also important for you to know a bit about me as, well, I AM the company. :)
More than anything, and the logo/brand should reflect this, I want target clients to know that they're hiring someone who is high-powered and draws from a deep well of experience. I have a diverse background that has positioned me very well to build this consultancy. Some highpoints include:
- 15 years as the number two of a large and complex public university in the United States;
- 8 years supporting the work of senior diplomats while working for a foreign government;
- 5 years engaged in detailed policy analysis for a socioeconomic think tank;
- PhD in communication and public discourse, MA in political science, BA in economics;
- Published scholar and seasoned researcher;
- University lecturer who has taught graduate seminars and undergraduate courses in speechwriting, research methods and public speaking;
- Global citizen who visited or worked in more than 40 countries.
Beyond that obnoxious synthesis of my CV, there are a few other things that are really important to me as I think about building this business:
- I deliberately DO NOT want to have many clients. Instead, I want a few that I serve very well;
- I'm a very good listener and observer; more than a few leaders have noted my keen ability to "get inside their heads";
- Beyond bring a high level of thoughtfulness to situations I pride myself in offering exceptional discretion, good humor and a quick wit.

Requirements
Must have
- The name of the company
- An uncluttered look
Nice to have
- Incorporation of the tagline
- Possibly a line over the "U" is "COCUITY" indicating it's a long vowel (not essential -- designer's choice)
- A corresponding mark/icon reflecting the company mission
- NOTE: The uploaded files were made by me. While I'm obviously not a designer, they do reflect some of the styles and colors I have in my head. I'm not wed to them, but I thought it better to give you a feel for what I'm thinking at the start.
Should not have
- Nothing too bright or frilly... buy a dash of color would be great
- Remember: This is a company being pitched to people who are high-powered and at the top of the food chain
