Logo Design Brief
We need an eye-catching logo that will pique our potential customers' interest. We are 'The Mindful Mouthful' and we'll be making and selling cookies and meat pies – but there’s a twist.
The twist is that we are a co-op which will include owners/employees who have developmental disabilities. However, given that in the food industry, folks need to be assured of safety, quality and service before they can embrace the social good of employing people with disabilities, we will not be using that as our unique selling proposition... INITIALLY!
We differentiate ourselves as being the only socially responsible, locally, hand-made producers of cookies and meat pies in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. People need to get that from our logo (and exterior packaging), but they will get the DETAILS of the social good once they have purchased our product as it will be on the interior packaging.
We are targeting a specific crowd with the socially responsible, locally hand-made differentiators who are educated, middle-high income earners...like the latte drinking yoga moms or the fancy coffee drinkers with a conscience. So our logo has to tend towards the classy, high-brow end of the spectrum. Any colours are in play, but our products will need to both look good and stand out when placed beside other wrapped cookies at a coffee shop or in a local market store.
The logo will be used on all of our marketing collateral including web sites, packaging, print materials, a van wrapping, etc. It should also look smart in colour and in black and white. So it must be in vector format and should be able to be manipulated after the fact. We may also want to use different taglines, such as “the good food company” or “socially responsible, locally hand-made”, so your designs could either incorporate space for a tagline or even show us what they would look like with these taglines as examples.
As with any logo, we want ours to stand out from the crowd, to be memorable and sticky, create a buzz, generate interest, and be suggestive yet meaningful. If you can make it classy yet whimsical, distinct yet not too ostentatious, sophisticated yet playful….then we look forward to seeing what you’ve got!

Must have
- Eye catching logo that attracts attention and piques curiousity, but it must also fit appropriately when stacked with other baked goods at the counter of a coffee shop or with other packages of bulk cookies or meat pies at a local farm market or grocery store. It shouldn't be gaudy or bright and obnoxious, but rather tasteful and smart. Should include "The Mindful Mouthful".
- Our product line may grow to include other items, so the logo must be scalable and not just refer to cookies or meat pies.
- Should look equally fetching whether it be in colour or grayscale.
- Vector-based and we should be able to manipulate it in Illustrator.
Should not have
- Obvious and blatant references to the our main mission which is employing people with developmental disabilities. As mentioned earlier, that does not help in the food industry, so we are waiting until after the purchase is made before we educate folks on that aspect of our organization.
