Logo Design Brief
We need a new logo to update our branding.
We are a backcountry lodge that offers backcountry activities - mainly skiing and snowboarding in winter, and hiking an mountainbiking in summer.
Our lodge is in British Columbia, Canada - in the Monashee Mountains South of Revelstoke, BC.
Essentially our product is an experience. Our branding should adequately represent / express this experience.
We are looking for branding that is 'hip', unique, and appeals to our educated / sophisticated target market.

Must have
- Sol cannot be all upper case (SOL).
Logo design must be simple/clean linework - to be used in different applications (website, print ads, and easily embroidered for our retail garmets and hats).
We are looking for a graphic strong symbol that represents Sol Mountain.
Logos we like see Ibex http://shop.ibex.com/(outdoor clothing), Baldface Catskiing, Dynafit http://www.dynafit.com/en
Logo graphics do not always have to be used, ie can sometimes use font alone. Or - if our branding is strong enough - use graphic symbol with out font.
Font selection is part of logo design.
Target Market (box does not allow enough space) - more to add: We cater to an increasing segment of the population who put high value on their recreation, health, fitness, outdoor adventure and connection to wilderness. The experience we offer is a lifestyle they value and associate / label themselves with (ie. I am a backcountry skier) and often an 'escape' from their everyday lives. Our branding needs to appeal / confirm this association - and be something our guests are proud to brand themselves with.
(ie. I am a Sol Mountain backcountry skier or singletrack mountaibiker).
Nice to have
- Logo should reflect on the experience offered - both summer and winter.
We offer 'good times'! The socializing and dining is a big part of the experience (not all about the adventure activities).
Our preferred colours are silver/grey (on blue or black backgrounds), or black - and not used yet but may look good is gold on black.
Can build on some local names.Check out Baldur (local mountain) - Norse god, provider of goodness and light, somewhat parallel to experience offered at Sol Mountain.
Sol Invictus has some neat designs.
Sol is sun, Sunday is the day of rest (and play) - Sol Mountain is the place of play.
We have been playing with the idea of a face - with 'gravity induced grin' and flaming medusa sun hair.
A satisfied face speaks well to the experience we provide.
Attached Sol Invictus symbol offers a good starting point (needs to be a 'fun, satisfied' face with simpler linework.
Have a look at new mountain biking branding (not downhill / freeride - our guest will be cross country / All Mountain) - this appeals to this 'hip' component we need.
Have attached a jpeg file of associated industry logos we like (brands our guests likely associated with).
Should not have
- Cannot use all upper case for Sol (no SOL).
