VA lender needs a facelift to their old logo

The system won't uncheck the box for "lettermark logo". That is not something I am looking for.
From the first designs coming in let me add some feedback:.
The logo CANNOT look like the Veteran's United one that I uploaded, which is what our logo probably should have been. So please work to incorporate the existing elements, without it ending up too close to that Veteran's United logo
If you're going to use the "VA" in the logo, it is what we do, not our name. So it would be appropriate as a shadow, cutout, or some other subtle note, but not the primary words/letters
There's a balance between a military theme and a helpful theme. Some have a super strong military theme which make them somewhat harsh and overly masculine. Others are too artistic and soft. Need to find a way to communicate both 'military' and 'here to help'.
We will end up with a military color palate. Please don't waste time with greens, oranges, etc...
Dear Project Owner,
I recently saw your open competition, and I am more than interested to take your design challenge. My father is a Vietnam war veteran so this strikes a cord personally. Before I begin however, I have to say that I'm scratching my head a little as to what your looking for because your brief is a little ambiguous with exception to understanding the adjectives as they relate to your look and feel.
Would it be possible for you to elaborate a little more about what your looking for so I don't waste your time or mine. The old logo does utilize the winged eagle. Is that something you want to keep because there is a history of that being part of your brand image in the past. Is there any symbol that you want to avoid?
I recognize there is very little time to put together a logo monogram for your but I'd like to try if you can clear up your brief for me.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.
Warmest Regards,

To ALL:
After seeing the options coming in it's helped us narrow down our scope of what we're looking for. I will update the brief and give individual feedback as I can, but here's the updated guidance:
No need to for the total redo. The new design needs to retain some of the basic elements of the old logo an lose the more complex parts:
Keep:
The house shape in some fashion
the red, white, blue, and gold color palate.
Crisp Serif font for the name
Don't Keep
The eagle
The company name inside the logo (can be off to the side or below)
Do Add
A silhouette reflecting a military person, or people. Some samples showed military saluting, helping up a hill, or a family. Those are along the lines of what we want.
Options
reuse the waving flag look of the original
Use stars from the original.
Use the distinct MHL letters in the logo, and the name separately.
Use the VA letter is some super subtle way (like the arrow that's in the FedEx logo) or not at all.
Overall:
We're looking for a logo with some detail, but not a ton. And having the capacity to reduce some of that detail to make a recognizable iPhone icon.
any changes required please feel free to ask
I have been working hard on your logo... Simplifying the old logo down to meet the technology age we are living in now... Added the saluting soldier as per your request but I think that it won't always need to be there as supporting pictures on websites and brochures could easily reflect this. Please let me know how you feel about these logos. Full respect to all servicemen everywhere. Bryan BRANDMECHANIC
