Logo Design Brief
We will pay $100 to the designer whose logo we choose to use.
We need a logo for an iPhone and iPad app which we will launch later this year. It is exclusively a menu translation from English to another language. We have an app from English to French and one from English to Italian. We hope to have one from English to Chinese next year.
To use the app, you open it, take a photo of a menu and push translate. The translation is line by line with English on top and the language translation directly beneath each menu item. It is for travelers from another country who don't read English. It only translates menus in English. It does not translate handwritten menus. It has a built in flashlight to illuminate a menu in low light conditions.
Currently almost all translation apps work only with an internet connection and the ones that say they (GoggleTranslate) work offline still have problems of various sorts. Ours will be the first off line menu specific apps on the market when they launch. The idea for this was born three years ago while in Austria looking at a menu in German and using Word Lens (the only offline photo translation app at the time) which was so horrible it didn't help.
We are planning a separate app for each language, and a slightly different logo (icon) for each. Ideally an icon for our app that translates from English into French could be modified slightly to be an app translating from English into Italian. So we could have a similar look with localization for different countries. (for example each language icon could have a country's flag, or colors of the flag, or abbreviation of name or something). ---for you to think about.
We have no branding and no famous name, so the app icon needs to help make clear what our app does. Probably a menu would be part of the design as the app is only for menu translation.

Hello. I have received some requests from friends significant to the project. One has said, please no all red icon. Another likes the calculator format, with 4 squares and suggested something in each square, like maybe a fork to represent a menu, a little camera. Just the one person's idea. But this is a significant person which she would like to see in some form. Don't know if it's a good one or not.Main two concepts to reflect, that the app works offline and that it is for menus. Sorry. People keep giving input after the fact, even though given opportunity to add something before project is launched. Consensus seems to be the word "Offline" would be ok to use , depending on icon, as it seems to be used in all countries without any translation.I appreciate your patience with needing to read all these updates.
